In this digital day and age, it feels like the ones in charge of the coolest brand images out there are almighty creatures that have some form of crazy superpowers. Spoiler alert: these completely fascinating people are actual humans and they hone their digital media sixth sense on the daily for some really rad companies, making them major brand MVPs. Turns out brains and an eye for beautiful things is a killer combo.
We wanted to know more about these ultra-compelling behind-the-scenes characters, so we're tapping some of our favorite digital editors to let us in on what their lives are like to fulfill all of our voyeuristic tendencies (don't lie, yours too).
This week, we have Kathryn Lees from one of favorite labels, Gentle Fawn, a brand as lovely as its emblem suggests.
We simply needed to hear more from the person who does it justice.
Gentle Fawn is one of those brands that is impossible not to fall in love with, if only for its sweet-sounding moniker. The best part in all of it is that the name actually describes their collections perfectly: their pieces are cool, feminine, accessible and basically everything the modern girl wants to wear. (I'll personally take this, thanks!)
Other than having the most perfect brand name evocative of delight and positivity, their Instagram account is just what you'd expect and more: pretty, aspirational photos of their clothes, high-quality repurposed UGC and cheeky relatable quotes, all delivered via a fun and playful voice.
We jumped at the chance to discuss some of it with the person behind of all that Insta candy. Below, find out about Kathryn's interesting career path and what lead her to the world of fashion.
Name and occupation: Kathryn Lees, Gentle Fawn Digital Marketing Manager
1. What was your college major, and why did you choose it?
I didn’t have a major in college. I actually only did a partial degree in college. I had the opportunity to teach skiing in Australia so I skipped out of college and headed down under for a season on the slopes. From there it has been a magical journey and interesting paths that lead me to a career in fashion marketing.
2. Favorite part of the job?
The creativity and diversity of my job, each day is something different which makes every day a new adventure. Also Gentle Fawn is a close knit crew which makes coming into work like being with an extension of a family. And the clothes…who doesn’t like to play all day with beautiful clothing!?!
3. Favorite social media platform and why?
Instagram (you wanted me to say that right?) [Ed note: duh. lol.]. Seriously it is. It is the first thing I look at when I wake up and the last thing I do before I go to bed. I love that it’s visual. I never get tired of scrolling through my personal feed or Gentle Fawn’s feed and seeing what people are posting. It’s where I find inspiration and my source for a daily dose of laughter too.
4. Three things you can’t live without?
My family (including my fur baby), my iPhone, and my Rosebud salve (not necessarily in that order depending on the day).
5. What’s on your travel bucket list?
Morocco is at the top of the list, granted it is a very long list.
6. Who’s your style icon?
There are too many and they change depending on my mood. I usually think of Jane Birkin when I need a muse.
7. Biggest vice? (be honest)
Again, there are too many. A really good cup of tea, wine in any shape or form, shoes, tacos, and dogs (especially dachshunds). I have a major weakness for all of those. See, there are too many.
8. Where can we find you on a Friday night?
Anywhere that involves me with a large glass of wine in my hand.
