Getting the Q&A Treatment: Lauren Caruso From Allure

In this digital day and age, it seems that the ones who hold the image of the coolest brands in their hands are almighty creatures who have some form of crazy superpowers. Spoiler alert: these completely fascinating people are actual humans, who hone their digital media sixth sense on the daily for some really rad companies, making them major brand MVPs. Turns out brains and an eye for beautiful things is a killer combo.

We wanted to know more about these ultra-compelling behind-the-scenes characters, so we're tapping some of our favorite digital editors to let us in on what their lives are like to fulfill all of our voyeuristic tendencies (yours, too, certainly). This week, we are chatting with Lauren Caruso from Allure magazine. Contain yourselves.

You're welcome.

Name and occupation:
Lauren Caruso, Senior Digital Editor at Allure magazine.

1. What was your college major, and why did you choose it?
After a whirlwind attempt at going pre-med, I finally landed on journalism in the middle of my junior year. I'd always considered writing my strong suit (I made a side business out of writing other people's college essays in high school and college, sorry Mom), and once I realized I'd taken just about all the writing electives I could, a lightbulb went off.

2. Favorite part of the job?
As Allure's senior digital editor, most of my job involves tackling digital strategy and content planning for the website, which I love. But sometimes, the surplus of beauty products beats the internet.

3. Favorite social media platform and why?
I'm a visual person and I have a tendency to curate into vignettes (see: my closet, my desk, my entire apartment), so I'm a huge votary of Instagram. Oddly enough, I've met some of my best friends—including my boyfriend—through the app.

4. Three things you can’t live without?
Brunch, the internet, and a good white tee. Right now, my two favorites are an old T by Alex Wang number from years ago that's somehow still white, and Everlane's box-cut tee. It's such a great standby.

5. What’s on your travel bucket list?
I'd love to go to Japan for the culture, Italy for the food, and Bora Bora for obvious reasons (turquoise lagoons notwithstanding).

6. Who’s your style icon?
I don't have one singular icon. Instead, I'd rather comb through certain Instagram profiles for my dose of inspiration. Right now, I particularly love @FIGTNY, Erica of @eggcanvas, & Ivania of @love _ aesthetics. For new styling ideas, I also love combing brands' pages. A couple favorites are @herthelabel, @cmeocollective, @finderskeepersthelabel, @saintbowery, and @bc_thelabel.

7. Biggest vice? (be honest)
I always, without fail, order the fries.

8. Where can we find you on a Friday night?
Probably grabbing a glass of wine with my boyfriend and our friends, or sitting in Central Park. I'm not exactly the stay-out-all-night type.

Confession: we always order the fries, too. Source: Instagram
